Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8-inch square pan with parchment paper.

In a bowl, whisk together melted butter, brown sugar, egg, vanilla, and almond extract.

Stir in flour, oats, baking powder, and salt until crumbly but evenly moistened.

Press about two-thirds of the mixture firmly into the bottom of the pan.

Toss the chopped cherries with the cornstarch, then spread them evenly over the base.

Crumble the remaining oat mixture over the top.
